I need to learn to do something new with the telescope, I wonder if i can teach it to dance or knit scarves that look like the Doctors…
It was a really nice evening tonight and after dinner we got out the telescope and had a quick look at the tiny sliver of moon which was drifting overhead. It was still clear blue sky but the following footage shows the moon was there and lording it up. I’ve sped the footage up so rather than a minute of solid mooooon it crushed into a sort package.
and just as a test i pointed the scope at a house (the chimney before anyone calls me a perving stalker) and took a snap to show how much of a magnification we can get. The house is about 114m away according to google maps and we could see bricks in detail. Plus a bit of wire…

So after packing the daughter off to be I went back out and had a muck about and managed to get some new shots of something new for a change.
First up on the catwalk is Arcturus. Arcturus is an orange giant star and joins us all the way from the constellation of Boötes, has taken over 36 years to get to us and was once a portent of tempestuous weather (well it was pretty hot today). I should point out the first pic is out of focus but looks puuurty so i’ve included it just to keep the masses entertained.

Next up comes the tease of my last few weeks… Saturn.

Yup, i’ve finally snapped the little goit. Its been hiding behind cloud, more cloud or trees for the last few weeks and i’ve managed to grab it by accident. Typical. The video I captured was run through Lynkeos to clean it up and i’m pleased at how well it comes out for a bright blob on screen. Yeah, so its hard to see anything other than the shape but if i get round to ordering the filters i’ve been eyeing up, that may change.
I’ve set this to publish at 9:20am and at that time I should be floating amid the waves in the swimming pool tomorrow but for now…. bed.
