I don’t seem to have dedicated as much time as I could have to the blog lately, but I’ve been a bit busy the last few evenings working on a project I’ve been invited to contribute to. I often get roped\/blackmailed\/harassed into doing odd bits of work for people<\/a> but my full time work means they often get pushed into a few hours in the evening when I can’t focus on them as much as I could, or when I do spend serious time on them I end up awake until 3-4 in the morning then suffer the next day.<\/p>\n

Last week I was approached by a rather nice chap who has offered me the chance to use my 3d skills in creating content for a game he is overseeing the development of. He, along with several other people, are providing their time free on this game which is based on a (fairly) well known IP but i’m not letting on with any details for moment for a couple of reasons:
\nFirstly, I’ve not actually finished anything yet. As I’ve said, I only get a few hours in the evening and I’ve spent the last few nights working on some models provided. I’m unwrapping the UV’s, setting them up for texturing at the moment and I will be working on some of the textures over the weekend but the last couple of nights have been 100% bodypaint UV frenzy. We’ve done a quick test and there seems to be a fairly good work flow between us so there shouldn’t be any serious technical issues between my c4d\/zbrush setup and his Max\/game creation system.
\nSecondly, I’ve promised not to tell any details. I’ve been privileged to see some of the current screens from the game and I’m pretty stoked to be part of this project. Its 100% volunteer based so i really don’t want to let the side down.
\nAnd lastly, as well as volunteer based its also a bit of a loose ‘in your own time’ methodology which means I may not be working on it 100% of the time so don’t want to jinx things by making some grand announcement then suddenly not having any time to spend on it.<\/p>\n

Once I’ve provided the finished bits (so I know I have ACTUALLY contributed something and I’m not just blowing hot air) and got the blessing of the project leader, I will post up more details. Until then I will have to be a gibbering loon by myself (no change there then).<\/p>\n

Saying that, I’m really excited to be part of this project and have already clocked up a good few hours working on it so if all goes well I should be able to add game content creator to my CV. I’ve spent some of tonight working on one of the models in zbrush, created a normal map for it and now feel like settling down to read some China Mieville. I picked up a copy of Kraken the other day, I’ve started it and I have to say, it’s pretty damn good. I’m smelling the occult happenings and with the titular Kraken in it I’m almost hoping for a Cthulhu crossover \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n
