I grew up with the classic era Star Trek films being on TV all the time and Star Trek V seemed to be on more than most. The phasers they have in it looked mean, totally unlike the normal little ones from the original series and I wanted to try making one shortly after getting my 3d printer.
I found a nice one online and there’s LOADS of parts to it. It is deceptively complex for such as small weapon. I set to and soon found an issue that the parts started to curl up as it was printing.

Not even slightly daunted by this, I carried on and hit on the idea of rigging a high-powered red LED in the tip.

One order to Rapid Electronics later, I had the parts. Priming and filling time.

Next up wiring. I hollowed out the middle and rigged up the trigger to be a moment button.

With that done, it was time to start putting it all together.

PEW! PEW! PEW! DIE, NAUGHTY ALIEN PERSON! PEW!
To hold the battery for the light, I modeled a longer powerpack and printed it off.

I was painting this about the same time I was making my first lawgiver… Yes, this blog post is THAT late.

The LED worked really well. To the point of it being quite bright even in daylight.

I don’t seem to have any photos of the final model but its not that exciting to look at. Black some silver. So here’s a picture of it nearly finished with a Lawgiver.

I may make another one one day as I ended up selling this one and feel like making a new one. I’ll just add it to the massive list of projects to do.
