owwwww ooowww oooooooooooooooooowwwwww I’ve just sliced a chunk out of my finger while carving up a model kit.I recently got hold of a 40k Valkyrie model kit as reference for the 3d model of a i’m putting together in Cinema 4d. I’ve been slowly putting the kit together and its helping no end with the production of the 3d model. Mainly because its making me go back and rework bits i’ve ballsed up on. I don’t just want to make a 3d CGI model of a plastic kit but its helping me see the shape of the bodywork and the angles which I just can’t get from a few screenshots from the web. The problem is I’m holding bits of the kit together while looking at it from angles then having to put it down in bits. I can’t glue (or rather plastic weld) bit together as I need to paint the inside parts like the cargo hold and cockpit. I want to paint these bits but at the same time its annoying me that I can’t stick it all together. I think a trip up to GW for some paint is called for.
I’m regressing back to an earlier point in my life…
There was a crit on a forum a few years back when someone posted a model they had made of a Rhino in 3d. A bloke (who I seem to remember was working in the 3d industry) just pointed out that it was nothing more that a 3d version of a kit. None of the parts had been setup as if it was real, such as the track going into the bodywork or the metal grille actually covering something. Its a very valid point which has always stuck with me when i’ve modeled 3d stuff. I don’t know if i’ve ever pulled it off properly but the thought has always been there.
Anyway, between the blood loss and the use of plastic weld in a small, badly ventilated cellar, I need to go and lie down.
oh yeah, screenshot.

I’m taking a minor break from some 3d work to post a couple of 2d illustrations up to my picassa gallery. I’ve added the finished ‘Dead Zebra’s’ (two weeks in the making) and ‘ice cream scream’ (two nights in the making) to the pot. The site is here:http://picasaweb.google.com/dr.monkeyface/2DWork#

Now back to 3d or Smith will be round to harass me.

I had the weird thing pop into my head last night as I was dozing off. So I sketched it at work today and have spent the last hour or three (with Saving private Ryan going in the background) drawing him. Also I had a craving for ice cream earlier and I thought he may have the same feeling so he is calling for some. MmmmmmThe hands and feet are just blocked out rough at the moment but I think he looks like a Wookie gone wrong somehow…

Is anyone else bored with this? (Hell is anyone even reading this drivel?) I’m getting bored of it which means I may never finish the damn thing. Just the left arm to do then shading on the skull, some more of the body then I’m calling it quits. One problem. I don’t know what to do with the arm.
One is obviously infront of the guitar but the other… I just don’t know what to do with it. Hang it over the neck, draped behind (hard to see and looks weird) or just leave it hidden.
On a totally unrelated note, I started messing with writing word press themes from scratch today. It seems pretty simple to make a basic theme from scratch but getting fancy effects similar to jquery in there is tougher without knowing some php. Why can’t I go back to gluing plastic and bits of wood together? Much simpler…

I’ve been exploring the murky world of different types of electric guitars this evening in an effort to come up with one for the logo. As this is an area I’ve never delved into before i got marginally disinterested pretty quickly and just picked the first one I saw. As a consequence, when it was copied it from the separate file and pasted it into the zebra one, the colours didn’t coordinate as well as I had planned. Hey ho… I’ve tweaked and this is where I am at so far.Tags: 2d, dead zebras
